Apple’s iOS is the most popular mobile operating system on the planet. The software is does not just run on one device, but three. Apple have optimised it to be compatable, and work uniquely with each device, the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. With thousands of units sold a day, and millions active, iOS has became an operating system that everyone is familiar with. Apple done this successfully, not just because of their marketing campaigns, but by actually making the software easy and workable, an area in which most fail to succeed. First of all, the software is very interactive as the device is touch. The multitouch glass screen is very sophisticated. It is has a professional feel as it is actual glass. The hardware and software work in sync because of this. The navigation is very simple, and there is one button situated on the bottom screen of the device which takes you home. You simple swipe through the screens from left to right to find where to go, then click onto the apps to enter them. When wanting to return home, you simply press the home button. The device is engaging as it is so stunning. The device is so bright, which immediately attracts your attention and makes you want to use it as much as you can. The menu is in a grid. As you can see below the applications are stacked four along, with five rows. You, as the user has the option to move these apps out of the grid into folders, from which another grid of apps can be found. By doing this, the menu is cleared up and much easier to navigate.
The screen is majorly taken up by the app icons, with a small amount of text. This gives a very professional feel and makes for an interest dynamic, as the icons are all metaphors, so it’s fun to see how everyone automatically understands every one. The dynamics of the devices is very pleasing. When unlocking the one, you don’t press a combination of buttons like you do on a regular mobile, you simply slide your finger across the button of the screen, on the bar. The little tab follows your finger right to the end, as if you’re sliding a lock. Once at the end, the phone makes an unlocking sound and the menu appears. It’s extremely simple, but so captivating. Below is an image of the lock screen and the bar that you slide to unlock the device.
The composition and use of layering looks beautiful on them. Having very few layers keeps the look simple, but professional. It doesn’t clutter it up or make it look to busy, as the idea behind the operating system, is to be as simple as possible. When networking, the experience is unparalleled. Being the innovator for communication, Apple spends many hours on making the device as social as possible. Twitter is completely integrated, you can take a picture and tweet it whenever. Tag your location, tweet a video you watched on YouTube, or the coolest pair of socks you’ve found online. Facebook, Flickr and the vast majority of other social networking sites have created their apps for the devices and take full advantage of their capabilities. Again, this is with locations, photo editing and the internet at your disposal whenever you want to use it.

There is alot of screen space on Twitter. The main part of the website only take up about two thirds of the screen. This space as the left and right hand side makes the site look professional. Since there is whiteroom for our eye to rest, we aren’t put off by the visuals of the website. The site is dynamic as you can follow who you want. You don’t have to worry about people accepting you, unlike most social netowrking sites. There is also no profanity filter, which makes it create for freedome of speech, which people crave online. The website doesn’t use that many layers. Only the background then the interactive area ontop of that, it keeps it simple, which is one of the main goals. To keep the website simple, but professional. We also get the idea that the website is simple from the icon, as pictured below. The fact that it is a simple bird shows us that it isn’t anything fascinating. It is what it is.
